The team at London Ethnic are very excited to attend Graduate Fashion Week this year, with the event showcasing the work of over 1000 graduates from both UK and International universities, we can’t wait to get a glimpse of upcoming talent. We’ll be attending as many shows as we can to get a real insight into the fresh talent coming out from universities.
At the end of Graduate Fashion Week there is a Gala award show where are a number of awards given including one we’re super excited about which is ‘The Ethical Award’. In order to be considered for the award students have to demonstrate how their product is beneficial to the environment, culture or community from which the materials are sourced, all of which are of course right up our street. We’ll be watching the nominees closely in order to bring our customers the best that new ethical fashion has to offer.
The 2012 winner Sarah Murphy (pictured left), who studied at Northumbria University created her collection using only second-hand tweeds and woollen mixes after a desire to make a collection which was not only ethical but also stylish.
Some of the shows we’ll be attending include University of East London, Edinburgh College of Art, University of Salford and UCA Epsom. We’ll be around the exhibition on both the Saturday and the Sunday so keep an eye out for us so we can have a chat.
Graduate Fashion Week is responsible for launching the careers of some of the most successful designers including Christopher Bailey, Stella McCartney and Giles Deacon. We’ve got a sharp eye at London Ethnic for new talent, picking up some of our most popular designers whilst visiting Graduate Fashion Week including Emma Price, Kirin Atwal and Zehra Nas.
We can’t wait to get to the shows and exhibitions to see what young designers are up to today, where their inspiration comes from and hopefully work with some of them.
